We have begun a £1bn, six-year Programme to reform what we do, and make our services better for the citizens who use them. The Reform Programme is one of the most ambitious of its kind in the world.

To support us on this journey, we’re looking for an exceptional Policy Support Officer to join the Service Design Team at HMCTS.

This team is responsible for identifying, scoping and developing strategies and operational frameworks and recommendations for emerging cross-jurisdictional design gaps. Leading the maintaining and building of international relations across other jurisdictions and sharing lessons learnt and best practice to support service and enabling design across the change portfolio. Promoting adherence to the design process and alignment to the target operating model and design principles. Lead development and support delivery of open justice framework and other cross-jurisdictional strategies and frameworks.

The job holder will support the development of the strategic direction of the organisation, and will help to identify new opportunities and challenges within the justice landscape which affect HMCTS. They will also coordinate and support the delivery legislative activity to enable reform.

Working with a variety of stakeholders, you will need to establish and maintain key internal, external and cross justice sector relationships. You will provide advice on proposals and promote alternatives to meet HMCTS’ objectives. You will work flexibly across the directorate to provide input into key areas of work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in the assessment of policy proposals across government, and within the department, working with the Policy team to identify implications for HMCTS Reform, delivery models and services.
  • Manage team actions logs and liaise with appropriate leads to ensure actions are completed and followed up on in a timely fashion. Accurately record and monitor key decisions and action items from team meetings. Proactively chase actions before they become overdue and resolve any issues before escalating.
  • Provide general administrative support, including arranging meetings, gathering information to fulfil project documentation requirements, proactively requesting information from colleagues to ensure project plans are maintained and up-to-date.
  • Act proactively to ensure that all members of the team are kept informed of progress using appropriate channels/products such as meeting notes, action logs, and briefing relating to the policy work of the team.
  • Co-ordinate team meetings, act proactively to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the team’s activities. Produce notes of meetings and gather and circulate documentation as necessary. Set up systems to track and monitor action points from meetings, ensuring these are followed up and resolved using appropriate means of escalation.
  • Provide support in the development and production of project plans, briefs, presentations and other documentation, interrogating information provided to ensure it is consistent and revising as necessary.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience or knowledge of the justice system
  • Experience of working in a sensitive role with high level stakeholders.
  • An understanding of government and citizen’s needs

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
