Why HMPPS?

We believe in the importance of good work/life balance. Many of our team agree that their working hours and patterns go a long way to meet the organisation’s needs, and their own. In addition to a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy a range of valuable Civil Service benefits. Besides flexible working and childcare friendly hours, there’s 25 days’ annual leave, membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme and opportunities for onward progression right across the Civil Service.

Training

We give all our trainees a route to registered status. We also provide core on-the-job training to keep your knowledge and skills sharp, and support you in continued professional development through access to internal and external training providers. Your wider development is crucial, be that through taking a PhD, managerial or leadership qualifications (including coaching), or helping you become registered in more than one field once you’ve qualified.

Leaders in our field

Our Psychology Services are the first to respond to the BPS forensic testing initiative and receive external recognition of our Assessment and Training materials. We are proud that we are leading the way with good professional practice and that we now have a team of BPS Verified Assessors, able to train colleagues to evidence external quality standards. To date, we are the only employer of Forensic Psychologists able to offer such an externally accredited development opportunity – this is just one example of how we seek at all times to ensure we promote quality training and development opportunities for our people.
