The Role
We’re looking for talented and tenacious  Business Analysts to join our digital team in London to take the lead in creating world-class services in the justice system. We use cutting-edge agile software development approaches to make rapid but meaningful improvements to public services that live up to the unique challenges of MOJ's responsibility to society.

A business analyst has a good understanding of the enterprise arena and works across multiple services. They contribute to the development of best practice and lead activities for their community of practice (internally and across government).

Main Responsibilities 

  • Define success metrics and mechanisms for monitoring data through the life cycles of services
  • Work with business stakeholders to understand their needs, processes, and constraints in order to facilitate effective and efficient business process change 
  • Ensure business processes and policy objectives are understood and addressed appropriately by product teams
  • Contribute to the definition of precise problems for investigation
  • Collaborate with service teams to formulate hypotheses to test in service design phases.
  • Calculate costs for full service design and development phases
  • Work with product managers to write and prioritise user stories
  • Work with user researchers, service designers and technical architects to develop maps of relevant problem spaces
  • Take ownership of reviewing the fit of services into existing business context and the identification of business changes required to support the services
  • Contribute to the production and continued refinement of business cases through the life cycles of products and services ensuring the incorporation of proportionately robust and good quality evidence
  • Assess the attractiveness and achievability of potential product iterations, and compare the case for doing further work against doing something completely different
  • Contribute to the wider Business Analyst community

Essential Knowledge / Experience

The successful role-holder will have:

Essential:

  • Agile working - Able to identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use, including measuring and evaluating outcomes. Helps the team to decide the best approach. Able to help teams to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and work to agreed minimum viable product (MVP), print and scope.
  • Business analysis - Investigates problems and analyses options for new and existing services. Provides recommendations to solutions. Works with stakeholders to identify objectives, opportunities and potential benefits available.
  • Business improvement process - Able to analyse current services and processes, and identify and implement opportunities to optimise these. Helps to evaluate and establish requirements using relevant techniques such as gap analysis.
  • Digital perspective - Has the ability to apply a digital understanding to their work. Is able to identify and implement solutions for assisted digital.
  • Innovation - Has awareness of innovation and is able to apply this to own work.
  • Requirements definition & management - Responsible for elicitation of requirements. Facilitates setting of business priorities for change initiatives of medium complexity. Manages and implements requests for changes to baseline requirements.
  • Stakeholder relationship management - Identifies key stakeholders, tailoring communication to their needs and works with teams to build relationships whilst also meeting user needs. Can take opposing views to reach consensus. Understands how to work with stakeholders and contributes to improving these relationships, using evidence to explain decisions made.
  • User focus - Identifies and engages with users and stakeholders to collate user needs evidence, and understands and defines research which fits user needs. Able to use quantitative and qualitative data about users to turn user focus into outcomes.

Desirable:

  • Building modelling - Can use a wide range of techniques to model situations confidently. Gains the necessary agreement needed from subject matter experts and stakeholders, ensuring they review the results to fix any issues.
  • Business process testing - Reports on system quality and collects metrics on test cases.
  • Enterprise and business architecture - Understands and can apply the current target operating model to work.
  • Methods and tools - Can select and support the most appropriate tool or method.
  • Testing (business analysis) - Able to review requirements, specifications and define test conditions. Able to identify issues and risks associated with work whilst being able to analyse and report test activities and results.

Salary and working arrangements

If successful, the salary we offer you will be within the advertised range and will depend on the skills and experience you demonstrate at the interview.

Therefore in your cover letter it would be helpful to the hiring teams if you can indicate your salary expectations and if possible your notice period.
