Background

Judicial Office

The Judicial Office (JO) was established following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 and is directly accountable to the Lord Chief Justice and Senior President of Tribunals.  We are a unique branch of the Civil Service, dedicated to supporting the judiciary and promoting judicial independence, to maintain confidence in the rule of law.  The JO delivers a wide range of functions including training (through the Judicial College), communications, human resources, welfare, legal and policy advice, and library services.

Judicial Library and Information Services

Judicial Library and Information Services (jLIS) is a team of 14 people which provides legal publications to 1,700 salaried judges, 7,500 fee-paid judges and 1,100 legal advisers in the courts and tribunals to ensure that they are equipped to carry out their duties effectively.  We also provide a central legal research enquiry service for judges across England and Wales through the library at the Royal Courts of Justice, which provides judges with access to an unrivalled collection of online legal information; last year we dealt with over 1,200 research enquiries.

Each year we purchase over 30,000 individual items, and as the Acquisitions Manager, you will work with your colleagues to manage the purchase and delivery of those publications to judges, staff, courts and tribunals. 

Role purpose 

To manage the day-to-day acquisitions process to ensure that judges, courts and tribunals receive the publications they require in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

The job holder will be required to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process all weekly and monthly orders in accordance with business plan KPIs
  • Raise and manage purchase orders in accordance with financial procedures
  • Liaise with suppliers and publishers on forthcoming publication dates and prices 
  • Liaise with colleagues in front line teams to review quantities prior to placing orders
  • Maintain accurate bibliographic and financial information in the acquisitions portal, Acqua
  • Manage the acquisitions mailbox and deal with acquisitions queries from jLIS colleagues and suppliers
  • Organise monthly supplier account review meetings
  • Check and confirm invoices are fit for payment
  • Produce finance reports for weekly acquisitions meetings
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as appropriate

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Annual Leave

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.

Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC)
