Aims of the Youth Justice System
Prevention of offending by children and young people:
• To reduce the number of children in the youth justice system
• To reduce reoffending by children in the youth justice system
• To improve the safety and wellbeing of children in the youth justice system
• To improve outcomes of children in the youth justice system
Thinking of joining us?
Our recruitment is based on merit, we welcome applications from all who can commit to our vision and values, we offer considerable flexibility in how you work and expect commitment and flexibility in return. We continue to strive for equity, diversity and inclusion in our culture and our staff group. To this end we very much encourage applications from those people with protected characteristics. Our staff are public servants, eligible for the Civil Service pension scheme and we are accredited by the Civil Service Commission. This means applications from across Civil Service Departments, their agencies and Arms-Length Bodies are treated as internal applicants. We also welcome applications from those who do not currently work in these bodies or the public sector.
Role purpose:
You will be responsible for the project management and coordination of the Youth Justice Blueprint for Wales. You will be based within the YJB Operations Wales Directorate and will work collaboratively within a well-established partnership arrangement. Role context:
The Youth Justice Blueprint was published alongside a Blueprint for Female Justice in May 2019. The Blueprints were jointly agreed between the Welsh Government and Ministry of Justice and Policing in Wales to transform outcomes for children and women in contact with the criminal justice system, or at risk of coming into contact with it. The Youth Justice Blueprint provides a framework for delivering an agreed set of objectives. It is a partnership approach that includes Welsh Government, MOJ (HMPPS Wales, YCS and YJPU), YJB, Police and Crime Commissioners, youth justice services and specialist mental health amongst others. The YJB is the Senior Responsible Lead and on behalf of the partnership has been providing the leadership to the Blueprint since first published. The project is transitioning into phase two, focused on consolidating achievements to date and completing outstanding commitments.
Key responsibilities and relationships
In carrying out the role you will act as a positive influence for the work and culture of the YJB by encouraging positive emotions and positive social exchanges in the workplace. Set high expectations and live up to them. Make sure you deliver on the commitments you make. The main responsibilities of the role are to:
• Maintain appropriate governance to enable effective oversight and support effective decision making, coordinate workstream reporting at a project level and provide key reports outlining progress. • Coordinate a cycle of reporting to the Wales Youth Justice Advisory Panel to enable the panel to contribute their views and feedback on delivery.
• Coordinate and produce proportionate communication to agreed stakeholders.
• At all times, demonstrate support and respect for the YJBs commitment to equity, inclusivity and the diversity of the YJB and its partners.
