Do you want to be part of a high-performing team and work on campaigns that make a real difference? The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is on the search for its next Campaigns Advisor to join the Strategic Communications and Campaigns team, working on both international and domestic priorities.

The MoJ supports a range of issues that have a profound impact on people’s lives. We are at the heart of the justice system, and our current priority work ranges from our response to the COVID-19 pandemic to supporting our ‘Hidden Heroes’ who work across the entire justice system.

This is a fantastic multi-faceted role for an ambitious and creative communications professional who thrives on delivering high-profile international campaigns within the Justice, Courts and Legal Services portfolio, as well as contributing to our domestic campaign priorities.

As Campaigns Advisor you will have the unique opportunity to work on the Ministry of Justice’s International Strategy, including our flagship Legal Services are GREAT campaign, that has a presence in more than 30 countries worldwide. You’ll be working with colleagues at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Department for International Trade (DIT), building close working relationships with embassies around the world.

So what does the job entail? You will play a crucial role in expanding the profile of UK legal services at international level and will involve:

  • Working with other team members to develop, deliver and evaluate campaign activity against clear objectives, outcomes and timeframes.
  • Collaborating with colleagues inside and outside the Directorate, government departments and external stakeholders to expand the profile of MoJ.
  • Extending campaign messaging to multiple platforms and identifying key stakeholders that can support our communications and campaigns activity.
  • Developing a deep understanding of the legal sector and the associated business priorities and risks by working in partnership with MoJ policy teams.

You will report to the Senior Campaigns Advisor.

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Creative approach to innovative, no cost and low cost external communications campaugns, using digital, owned, earned and offline channels.
  • Effective communicator with previous experience working on campaigns and high profile communications activity.
  • Ability to understand complex and technical policy issues and be able to convey their meaning with confidence to different audiences.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • An enthusiastic team-player who takes a proative approach to their work.

Additional information

Please note that this role requires SC clearance, which would normally require 5 years UK residency in the past 5 years. This is not an absolute requirement but supplementary checks may be required where applicants have not lived in the UK for the required period.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Grading Structure Review

The Ministry of Justice is currently undergoing a review of posts which are currently graded at Band A to realign our grading structure with the majority of the wider Civil Service.

Security Clearance (SC)

To apply for roles in MOJ you will need to confirm your employment history for at least 3 years prior to the date of application so that pre-employment checks (BPSS) can be undertaken. If you have spent significant time abroad (a total of 6 months in the past 3 years) you would be required to give a reasonable account of the reasons why. 

For some roles you will be required to successfully complete National Security Vetting at Counter Terrorism (CTC), Security Clearance (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) level as a condition of appointment.
