The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) is an executive agency of MoJ with offices across England and Wales. Our role is to provide civil and criminal legal aid and advice to help people deal with their legal problems.

Job profile

We are looking for someone with a flair for innovative communications which will engage the LAA’s1200 staff in delivering priorities and support organisational and culture change. Someone who is a talented, motivated and creative communications professional able to develop relationships across all grades, including advising senior leaders. You’ll have a flexible approach, a can-do attitude and excellent relationship management skills. You will help to drive forward the delivery of the LAA internal communication strategy which has an ambitious programme of work including leadership engagement events, staff awards and implementing campaigns.

You will play your part in ensuring that LAA’s staff understand and buy in to our organisation’s mission, our shared values and our current priorities.

As part of the MoJ corporate communications team you will be able to identify opportunities relevant to the LAA and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure MoJ priorities and messages are reflected throughout LAA channels. This role reports to the senior corporate communications advisor.

The post holder will:

  • Forge strong relationships and become a trusted advisor to colleagues throughout the organisation.
  • Support the head and deputy head of the team advise senior leaders on internal communications strategy
  • Use insight and evaluation to identify target audiences and inform communication objectives, messages and plans
  • Have creative ideas and ability to deliver outstanding content and campaigns for our internal channels
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communications to ensure we are always improving
  • Work collaboratively with the team, key stakeholders and other government departments
  • Support the delivery of senior leadership roadshow events and the annual LAA awards
  • Play a key role in the internal communications team, generating ideas and solutions to ensure we are delivering outstanding results
  • Contribute to developing innovative staff campaigns

Responsibilities

  • Strong relationship management skills, effective at negotiating and influencing
  • Good knowledge of the communications landscape, and the role of digital communication in internal communication
  • Understand and be an advocate for the principles of staff engagement, or wish to develop experience in this area
  • Creative design and layout skills
  • Photography and videography skills
  • Maintain an understanding of Government Communications Service initiatives, best practice and activities.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
