Overview of the job

This is a role within Insights Group, in the Strategy, Planning and Performance Directorate in HMPPS HQ. 

The post holder will support and build capability in the Group by: 

·         Developing and creating high quality, engaging, creative and vibrant visual or written content in a range of formats such as:

o    briefing and presentations

o    videos and animations

o    blog posts, and

o    infographics.

·         Ensuring quality, consistency, and accessibility compliance of products. 

This is a national role .

This post does not have line management responsibility. This post is non-operational.

Summary

Insights Group supports system wide learning, drawing on data, evidence, information and experience, building on what we already know and helping to fill the gaps. We enable HMPPS and partners to access, share and apply insight from multiple sources and perspectives. We create better channels for hearing peoples’ views, and build opportunities to collaborate and develop an open, learning culture. 

This post will apply expertise, creativity and effective communication skills to build capability, improve and quality assure Insights Group’s communication products and digital content. This will improve how we engage with and communicate to HMPPS colleagues and help maximise the impact and reach of our services and products.

Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties: 

·         Develop and create high quality, multi-media content such as:

o    briefing and presentations

o    video, audio and animation

o    blog posts, and

o    infographics.

·         Design and implement processes to ensure quality, and consistency across different product owners within the Group.

·         Design and implement processes to ensure compliance with accessibility requirements, including subtitling.

·         Access and apply the best evidence on communicating effectively with different audiences on different channels and media.

·         Help to facilitate and collaborate in building the evidence for effective communications in our field.

·         Support the publication of content on the Group’s external website.

·         Work with HMPPS Communications to improve, support and maintain the

Group’s intranet content.

·         Work with the HMPPS learning platform provider to improve, support and

maintain the Group’s content.

·         Support the Deputy Director (Head of Group), SLT and wider Group to develop and create high impact content for a range of uses. 

The duties/responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present and is not intended to be exhaustive. Technical Requirements

Familiarity with principles of effective communication, for example: using Writing for GOV.UK - Content design: planning, writing and managing content - Guidance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

·         Able to:

Working Arrangements & Further Information

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks.

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Standard working hours for this post are 37 hours per week excluding breaks which are unpaid.

If you are a current NPS employee, this vacancy may be available on a Loan basis for up to 2 years. Applications are invited from suitable qualified staff.
