The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has an exciting vacancy for a Campaigns Advisor in the Department’s Strategic Communications & Campaigns team. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious and talented communications professional to work on high-profile domestic and international campaigns for the Ministry.

The Strategic Communications & Campaigns team sits within the Ministry’s Policy, Communications and Analysis Directorate. Job description

The Campaigns Advisor role offers the opportunity to deliver first class communications and campaigns to influence public opinion, behaviour and help shape the perception of the Ministry’s work with key stakeholder audiences. Ideal for a dynamic and creative communicator, you will help areas of the business define their objectives, understand their audiences, create content for external channels and evaluate the impact and success of their communications.

The successful candidate will help deliver campaigns and external communications which support the Ministry’s key priorities, covering areas such as our offender employment campaign and access to justice; along with the opportunity to work on our international “Legal Services are GREAT” campaign.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with other team members to develop, deliver and evaluate high-profile campaigns and strategic communications against clear objectives, outcomes and timeframes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues inside and outside the Directorate to deliver the best results for the department, building relationships with other government departments and external organisations.
  • Develop creative, written content for external communications channels in support of campaigns and communications activity.
  • Develop a good understanding of the business priorities for your policy areas, and strong knowledge of your audiences, helping to identify opportunities and flagging risks.

  • Effective and persuasive communicator with previous communications experience and strong written skills.
  • Creative thinking and keenness to develop and deliver innovate, low and no cost external communications and campaigns, using digital and offline channels.
  • Excellent organisational skills, motivated to work in a fast-paced, highly-motivated professional team.
  • Customer orientated with a focus on delivering a great professional service and confident working with senior colleagues.
  • Ability to understand complex and technical policy issues and translate these for different external audiences; reacting quickly to unexpected developments.

You are also expected to be proficient in each of the Government Communication Service (GCS) competencies to IO level, particularly skills and knowledge under the ‘Campaigns and Marketing’ discipline. The summary below is not exhaustive - you should examine the full version on the GCS website.

  • Review existing sources of insight (including previous communication activity) to understand the overall context for communication and audience influences/influencers.
  • Interpret quantitative and qualitative data to identify stakeholder and audience insight.
  • Use insight to identify target audiences and partners, support decision making and help inform the overall communication approach.

Ideas

  • Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages suitable for use across a range of channels.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of how channels work together and complement each other.

Implementation

  • Ensure communication products are cost effective and delivered to high quality.
  • Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills. Write clearly, concisely and accurately.
  • Select appropriate visuals to improve the impact of communication plans are delivered on time and to budget.

Impact

  • Support the design and delivery of techniques to assess the effectiveness and impact of communication.
  • Advise on, monitor, summarise and provide analysis of campaign effectiveness indicators.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Security Clearance (SC)

To apply for roles in MOJ you will need to confirm your employment history for at least 3 years prior to the date of application so that pre-employment checks (BPSS) can be undertaken. If you have spent significant time abroad (a total of 6 months in the past 3 years) you would be required to give a reasonable account of the reasons why.
