Director of Corporate Services (Grade 6)


This position is based at CICA, Alexander Bain House, Glasgow, G2 8JQ. During covid-19 restrictions an extended flexible working offer is in place to enable the job holder to work from home.


The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice. As an organisation we compensate victims of violent crimes. We employ around 300 people and are based in Glasgow city centre with excellent transport links. We are a small, engaged, productive workforce with a real sense of corporate community. The Role


This is a key senior leadership role with responsibility for Corporate Support and Governance. Leading a wide portfolio of responsibilities, you will be a member of the CICA Executive Management Board and participate in the strategic leadership and corporate management of CICA.


You will develop and implement strategies which enable our people; safeguard and protect our business and report on all aspects of our performance. As a senior leader you will be highly visibility and build trust with colleagues across the organisation. You must have high levels of inter-personal skills and be able to build strong relationships at all levels. You will have a track record of high performance and show the capability and drive to develop in the role. A key influencer and contributor, you will be insightful, with a passion for continuous improvement and public service.


You will lead a team of 25 providing key corporate functions, including secretariat for the Chief and Deputy Chief Executive Officers and our non-Executive Board members, and line manage a team of 10 professional clinical practitioners providing diagnosis and prognosis in claims for mental injury compensation. You will build an effective network with your corporate service peer group in the wider Ministry of Justice community, identifying synergies and efficiencies through partnership working.

Essential Criteria:


  • a confident and clear communicator, with strong relationship building, influencing and negotiation skills
  • strong strategic thinking and intellectual capabilities, including an ability to understand a wide range of complex corporate and often sensitive issues, and manage conflicting priorities
  • ability to work with ambiguity, to offer innovative solutions and make sound, well-judged decisions
  • experience in developing informed strategies and business plans

The following criteria are not essential however candidates who can offer this experience or skills should provide relevant evidence in their application.


Desirable Criteria:


  • Experience of working within a Corporate Services environment,
  • Experience of leading board level secretariat functions
  • Qualification in or previous experience of managing governance, risk, information management or counter-fraud

Selection Process


The vacancy filling process involves 2 stages using Civil Service “Success Profiles and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience.

If you are selected for stage 2, you will be invited to interview which will include a short presentation. You will be notified of the presentation topic in your invitation. At the interview we will assess you against these behaviours:

We offer flexible working 7am – 7pm, Monday to Friday, on full-time (37 hours per week) or part-time patterns.


Pay


The salary range for this Grade 6 post is £52,119 to £72,000


Non civil servants joining MoJ will normally be placed on the minimum of the salary range stated above however there is scope to offer a higher starting salary to exceptional candidates.


If you are an existing civil servant joining MoJ from another government department (OGD) on a lateral transfer basis, you will normally bring your current salary with you. Where your OGD salary is above the MoJ pay range maximum you will retain this on a mark time basis until it erodes. If your OGD salary is below the start of the MoJ pay range, you will be placed on the minimum.


If applying on promotion, you will receive a 10% increase on your OGD salary or be placed on the minimum of the salary range, whichever is higher. Salary details will be confirmed with the formal offer of the post. Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Grading Structure Review
