The Role

We’re recruiting for a Communication and Engagement Officer here at MoJ Digital & Technology, to be part of our warm and collaborative LAA Digital team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and delivery of communications plans to support LAA Digital's strategic vision.
  • To lead on the production of creative communication channels, considering push and pull opportunities.
  • Building regular internal and external communications from the creation of content through to distribution.
  • Support the team to champion MoJ branding guidelines and apply them to all digital and wider communication
  • To work with the Operational Lead to support the creation and implementation of new digital channels and ways of communicating.
  • To maintain the department's Google website and its content with a planned program of messaging, to ensure fresh content to drive traffic including website banners, event and news updates, and development of information pages.
  • To contribute to the staff communication platforms.
  • Where required, to develop links with the national media, take an active role in responding to media enquiries by collecting information and preparing written responses and press releases.
  • To act as an ambassador for the team by promoting its work with colleagues and identifying opportunities and positive stories for the MoJ Communication and Engagement Team to support.
  • To source and produce content that promotes the work of the LAA Digital department to a wide audience of stakeholders.
  • To act as a proof reader to ensure continuity for branding and presentation as well as to provide support for document and report
  • To manage and develop operational databases of key stakeholders, liaising with other Communications and Engagement colleagues for up-to-date intelligence and response to distribution requests, as well as updates and reviews, using knowledge and experience of GDPR requirements and good practice.
  • To lead on the co-ordination, compilation, and production of Annual Reports and Annual Summary publications, liaising with Heads of Departments and Executives regarding content, ensuring that corporate branding and style are adhered to.
  • To support Communications and Engagement colleagues on the implementation of engagement and communications plans for specific projects and programmes where required, which includes but is not limited to face-to-face interactions with internal, external, and public-facing stakeholders as part of involvement, engagement and statutory consultation activity.
  • To assist in the delivery of campaigns with the development of posters, social media schedules, and press releases.
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibility and scale of the post.

Person Specification

Essential 

  • Meet the requirements for BPSS clearance
  • Experience of working in a media/communications setting in a complex organisation.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to produce a wide range of content and resources
  • Ability to take complex information and translate it into appropriate messaging for different audiences
  • A strong wordsmith with excellent grammar skills
  • Strong administrative skills to support areas such as loading web site
  • Excellent attention to detail particularly around protecting the MoJ branding and reputation
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple and conflicting work demands.
  • A creative approach to presenting complex ideas which meet the needs of target audiences
  • Ability to produce work to agreed deadlines and an appreciation of when to cascade issues and actions.
  • Strong IT skills

Desirable 

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in communications
  • Ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload with minimal supervision working to tight and often changing timescales.
  • An interest in photography and video
