Head of Strategic Communications Planning - HMCTS Communications

We’re looking for an exceptional candidate to join the HMCTS Communications Team in the role of Head of Strategic Communications Planning.

HMCTS was created in April 2011. It brought together Her Majesty’s Courts Service and the Tribunals Service into one integrated executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. We employ around 17,000 staff and operate from locations in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

We’re restructuring the HM Courts & Tribunals Service Communications Team, to ensure it has the capability to support the demands of a large and complex organisation that is undergoing major change.

We will be professional communications leaders: defining the organisation's communications strategy; working with communications partners in the MoJ and Judicial Office; delivering operational communications activities; and enabling others to deliver and improve their own communications.

Your role will be to lead the strategic communications planning function for HM Courts & Tribunals Service. This includes planning, insight, evaluation, team governance and putting plans in place to develop the team's capability.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of communications planning in a large and complex organisation or for a major change programme.

  • Can identify strategic communications priorities, including risks and opportunities.

  • Project management experience.

  • Highly organised with the ability to support others and the wider communications team in streamlining and organising workloads .

  • Analytical and systematic in their approach to analysing data - can make evidence-based recommendations based on audience insight and evaluation.

  • Methodical and able to focus on details.

  • Can analyse large volumes of information, identity key issues and present these succinctly and effectively to others.

  • Experience of developing and maintaining systems and processes.

  • Ability to present complex project management plans in a way that is accessible and interesting to others.

  • Understands what good governance looks like, and can put plans in place to achieve this.

  • Strong written communications skills particularly in relation to report writing

  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills, and familiarity with project management software/tools

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)

To apply for roles in MOJ you will need to confirm your employment history for at least 3 years prior to the date of application so that pre-employment checks (BPSS) can be undertaken. If you have spent significant time abroad (a total of 6 months in the past 3 years) you would be required to give a reasonable account of the reasons why.
