Overview
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is responsible for registering lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and enduring powers of attorney (EPA) and supervising deputies who are appointed by the Court of Protection.
We are looking for someone to join our small Centralised Recruitment Team, with some experience of interviewing on large scale recruitment campaigns, with a willingness to learn and develop their skills and to assist vacancy managers in successfully filling OPG’s vacancies.
The Centralised Recruitment Team works collaboratively across all business areas to recruit staff and forms part of the wider People and Development Team. The role is primarily acting as an interview panel member or chair, sifting and interviewing for recruitment campaigns but also includes contributing to all tasks and activities undertaken by the wider recruitment team as required. The successful candidate will assist the team in introducing and implementing new and innovative recruitment methods which are an essential part of the support element of this role.
The successful candidates will be based in either our Birmingham or Nottingham offices, but will be expected to work at both sites whenever required.
Job Description, Duties and Responsibilities –
- Sifting job applications using a paperless approach. Utilising the SSCL online platform to both review, sift and input results.
- Participating on interview panels as Chair or Panel Member.
- Conducting interviews in accordance with MoJ policy.
- Provide constructive feedback to candidates where requested.
- Assist the Recruitment Team to develop and introduce new and improved recruitment practices that will enable the team to meet the OPG’s need for an ever-growing workforce.
- Undertake exit interviews, managed move and other ad-hoc meetings and interviews as required of the role.
- Support vacancy managers across the business to improve role descriptions to attract the right people to apply for vacancies at the right time.
- Working with vacancy managers and Recruitment SPOCs to select the most suitable recruitment options (using Success Profiles, CV, personal statement, assessment centre etc.) for specific roles.
- Assist in the training and support of new campaign sifters and interviewers, acting as an expert mentor to colleagues.
- As new recruitment processes are introduced, gain sufficient expertise to share those skills across the business.
- Input into strategic decisions regarding OPG’s recruitment and promote this agenda across OPG.
- Contribute to the reputation for delivering an excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the Centralised Recruitment Team’s workload to ensure task actions are completed in a timely fashion and within agreed standards.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- The role holder will preferably have experience in recruitment and conducting large scale recruitment campaigns. Comprehensive training will be available.
- Experience of using Microsoft computer packages, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Proficiency in both written and oral communication as some telephony work will be required.
- The role holder will need to be able to develop themselves and identify solutions to problems including what training they will need to improve.
Highly Desirable
- Knowledge of Success Profiles.

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post.
