 At DESIGN102, we’re on a mission to bring the benefits of great design to the public sector.We have a brilliant opportunity for a highly motivated Creative Artworker to join a busy and ambitious team, working in a unique environment on stimulating accounts that often make a difference to people’s lives.

You will be responsible for preparing artwork across a range of design projects, providing services across government. You’ll already have a good knowledge of design principles and will be able to work to brand guidelines and specific briefs, ensuring that production deadlines are met and that the client services team are updated of project progress along the way.


Main Responsibilities

  • Editing and preparing artwork across a range of print and digital design projects that meet the relevant brand guidelines
  • Developing and adding to designs and artwork under the direction of designers
  • Rolling-out pre-existing designs and concepts across multiple sizes and formats as well as making text and imagery amends
  • Typesetting substantial publications
  • Ensuring all artwork produced meets client needs, schedule and budget
  • Having a keen eye for detail when under pressures with deadlines
  • Working fast and confidently to agreed schedules with Adobe CC on Mac
  • Working closely with clients across Government to understand their requirements
  • Working with a wide range of media including photography and digital
  • Managing multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail and deadlines
  • Working with designers to visually perfect their concepts
  • Discussing work schedules and status knowledgeably and confidently
  • Providing skilled and technically precise input and support
  • Keeping up to date with the latest artwork and repro techniques and software

 Working with communication colleagues across government

  • Work with communication colleagues and clients/stakeholders to discuss the business objectives and requirements of the job.
  • Interpret the client's business needs, understanding the audience, considering practical solutions and developing ideas and creative concepts to deliver effectively.
  • Work to a brief agreed with the client and develop design briefs by gathering information and data through research where necessary.
  • Manage multiple concurrent design briefs, estimating and allocating time effectively and providing a project plan for clients.
  • Incorporate client feedback amending documents accordingly
  • Work as part of a team with designers, printers, wider communication colleagues and digital specialists.
  • Work with line manager to develop new processes to improve the quality of service
  • Provide advice and information advocating a digital by default approach when appropriate, encouraging value for money and placing customer service at the heart of everything we do.

Skills & Qualifications

Key Skills/Experience

  • Excellent knowledge of industry standard office applications – MSWord and PowerPoint
  • Excellent knowledge of Lifecycle software
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to frequently changing schedules and deadlines
  • Multi-tasking and the ability to work to tight deadlines with accuracy and speed
  • Confident communicator
  • Familiar with accessibility principles and guidelines (desirable)
  • Ability to grasp client needs and consider practical solutions
  • Good teamworking skills
  • Able to work collaboratively with communication and other colleagues across Whitehall
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with communication and other colleagues across Whitehall.
  • Excellent customer service awareness, placing customer satisfaction at the centre of the service
  • Knowledge of VBA for Word (desirable)
  • Knowledge of industry standard design applications – Adobe CS (desirable) 

Starting Salary
The starting salary for this post is £29,790 per annum.

Working Arrangements & Further Information


Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
