Role Purpose

This role is a crucial part of Service Delivery within a large department, responsible for ensuring the integrity of a complex IT estate which is under rapid and constant change.

The Service Transition manager works with all elements of the wider IT organisation; with a special focus on Live Service Operations, Service Architecture and Project Delivery. The Transition Manager is accountable to the customer organisations ensuring that introduction and change to IT Services does not disrupt business operations.

It has a key focus on assuring and approving plans and strategies of the delivery partners and suppliers for the design and transition of new and changed services or into the service model.

The role is also has responsibility to ensure to work with the Change Managers in Business IT, in order to ensure that requirements of the Business are effectively released and deployed in live service.

The key objective of this role is to ensure that the service can be managed, operated and supported in accordance with the agreed Strategy & Architecture. The role ensures that operational methods, procedures, facilities and tools are established, reviewed and maintained.

During the transition into a SIAM model, the role will require extensive collaboration with the SIAM and other Tower partners.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven experience in Service Management at a senior level.
  • Strong Service Delivery and Ops experience.
  • Current knowledge and demonstrable experience of designing and managing large scale complex IT service transitions.
  • Sound, broad knowledge of IT and an excellent understanding of how operational service delivery relates to other areas of IT and how it impacts on other business functions.
  • Current understanding of the government's digital and technology transformation agenda.
  • Proven record of building strong, collaborative and productive relationships across functional and organisational boundaries and a strong commitment to the principle of continuous improvement and development.
  • Experience of managing and influencing internal senior stakeholders, and to prepare clear, compelling and non-technical advice on complex issues.
  • Experience in application and infrastructure delivery.

 

Job Dimensions / Accountabilities

  • Assure major Service Transitions to establish successfully a new or changed service into production within the predicted cost, quality and time estimates.
  • Ensure minimal unpredicted impact on the production services, operations and support organisation.
  • Work with Service Architects to assist in the development of excellent service support models and designs.
  • Working collaboratively determine appropriate and proportionate criteria to be used to assess transitions.
  • Assure and approve plans and service strategies of projects, programmes, SIAM and tower partners for transitioning new and changed services into Live Service.
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Business are effectively realised in live service whilst mitigating the risks of failure and disruption.
  • Act as a Service Transition subject matter expert for MoJ Technology, maintaining departmental policy/best practice. Leverage broader experience across the Service Management and Project lifecycle to deliver into high quality IT into a complex estate.
  • Be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as necessary to support Service Transition and wider Live Service team activities.

 

Qualifications and Accreditation

  • Equivalent experience and the ability to demonstrate up to date knowledge of ITIL or other relevant industry framework.


Working Arrangements and Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
