Job description

We’re looking for a dynamic, creative communications professional to lead the development and delivery of first class campaigns on some of Government’s most high-profile issues.

Could you be what we’re looking for? Have you got strong experience of leading campaigns, both paid-for and no-cost, to deliver real-life policy outcomes?

Could you help us to influence public opinion and behaviour by shaping innovative, imaginative content to reach our audiences? Can you talk to people from all walks of life, from prisoners, to judges, to business owners? Are you willing to look at insight to find out what people really think and feel so that you develop communications in response to this? If this sounds like a role you could fill, then read on.

The job is based in the External Communications team (part of Communication and Information Directorate). The successful applicant will lead campaigns for the courts and justice portfolios, most notably the “Legal Services are GREAT” campaign which is under the banner of the cross-Government GREAT campaign. This role works alongside an existing Band A (G7) who leads campaigns for the prison and probation policy area.

The job purpose is to develop and implement high quality communications campaigns and activity that engages external audiences, leading to increased awareness of departmental priorities and reforms and driving behaviour change.

Your team will provide professional advice and guidance on how to effectively reach external audiences. This is a critical role, working directly to the Deputy Head of Strategic Communications, and managing a team of one Band B (SIOs) and two Band Cs (IOs).

Your role will involve working with policy and communications colleagues, Ministers, private offices and Special Advisors to define communications objectives, understand audiences, create content for external channels and evaluate the impact and success of communications activity. All campaigns led by the team follow the OASIS strategic approach (Objectives, Audience Insight, Strategy/Ideas, Implementation, Scoring/Evaluation).

REPORTS TO:

Head of Strategic Communications (G6/Band A)

Team of 1 x Band B (SIO) Senior Communications Advisors and 2 x Band C (IO) Campaigns Advisors
