About the role

The successful candidate will be based at Holme House Learning Centre, Cleveland, TS18 2QU or Ranby Learning Centre Retford, DN22 8FT, delivering training within the North East and Yorkshire regions. Positions are regionally based to enable us to cost effectively utilise Trainer resources, predominantly in region, to deliver to local prisons.  Where demand dictates, Trainers will need to be able to travel to other regions.

This is a trainer role, based within MoJ People Group's Learning and Development Team. 

The job holder will be responsible for delivery of approved training to HMPPS and external customers. 

Reporting directly to the Delivery Manager this role is integral to delivering high quality provision and consistent standards of learning across training delivery and contribute to the associated development of new and existing products and resources.

The purpose of this role is to deliver a range of learning services that build workforce capability in line with the strategic training plan objectives and ensure that all quality assurance procedures and requirements are met.  

The jobholder will be required to deliver training when and where it is required, utilising a range of L&D venues and other nominated HMPPS/MOJ facilities.

The jobholder will be required through the delivery of training to develop relationships and engage with L&D, MoJ and HMPPS colleagues to ensure that delivery meets the current and future needs of the business.  They will demonstrate and promote an understanding of the L&D Operating Model.

The jobholder will be expected to travel and stay away overnight as required to meet the requirements of the role and needs of the business in a cost and time effective manner.

Summary

The job holder has significant responsibility for ensuring that learning products and services are delivered to a high-quality standard across HMPPS, the contracted out estate and other external customers as required. The post requires engagement with customers from the stakeholder groups and Awarding Bodies where applicable.

Working alongside L&D colleagues and Awarding Bodies where applicable, the job holder will ensure that they deliver a standardised high-quality learning offer.  Focusing on knowledge, skills and behaviours they will facilitate the development of individuals capability, enabling leaners to carry out their role safely and professionally in a challenging environment.

The jobholder will be responsible for assessing the capability of learners through approved processes.

The job holder will be accountable for ensuring they work collaboratively and appropriately within the L&D Operating Model providing products and services. 

The job holder is responsible for the delivery of and contribution to the design of innovative learning products, embedding and evidencing best practice to promote continuous improvement and development of people capability.

The jobholder will undertake compliance activities in line with the L&D Quality Strategy to evidence the delivery of a learner centric experience. They will be responsible for ensuring that their delivery of training adheres to the requirements of the robust internal and external (where applicable) quality assurance processes, evidencing effective and impactful delivery.

The job holder is responsible for maintaining their own professional development activities, to build their knowledge and skills in order to contribute to an innovative, modern learning delivery experience.

This is a non-operational role with no line management responsibility.  

This is an HEO post. The individual is required to work collaboratively with colleagues across L&D. They will be expected to make decisions within the defined limits of existing policies, procedures and processes, referring up to the Line Manager as required. They will be encouraged to offer workable solutions to ensure the smooth delivery of training. They will have a direct impact on the performance of their area of the organisation through their delivery role and their specialist knowledge and expertise. They will have influence on improving delivery output, raising the quality of service, building the capability of learners and enhancing organisational credibility.  

Essential Technical and Experience skills required:

• Strong organisational, planning, time management skills. 
• Excellent communication, presentation and public speaking skills.
• Customer focused approach to service delivery. 
• Proficient in relevant MS-Office Applications.
• English and Maths Level 2

Desirable:

• Understanding of effective teaching methodologies and tools
• Experience of quality assurance within a work based learning environment.
• Formal training/teaching qualification.  If none held, the job holder must be willing to commit to gaining a qualification within the first 12 months.  

Security clearance:

• All candidates are subject to security and identity checks prior to taking up post. 
• All external candidates are subject to 6 months probation. Internal candidates are subject to probation if they have not already served a probationary period within HMPPS. 
• All staff are required to declare whether they are a member of a group or organisation which HMPPS consider to be racist.

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.   

For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks.
