HMCTS is responsible for the administration of courts and tribunals across England and Wales and for supporting an independent judiciary to administer and improve access to justice. Analysis and Performance sits at the heart of HMCTS Finance, Governance and Performance (FGP) providing analytical support across a diverse and exciting agenda. We work in a dynamic and fast paced context. Our skills are in heavy demand and we are expanding to meet this demand.  

As a member of Analysis and Performance (AP) you will play a key role in transforming HMCTS into a data and evidence driven organisation by providing HMCTS and the Judiciary with timely, accurate and accessible performance reports and analysis that will underpin operational decisions and Reform activities.

Main purpose of the role:

This role is part of the Performance Reporting Team, whose remit is to develop and supply high quality performance reports for HMCTS leaders. The role sits within the Information Design team, who champion engagement with customers and lead and co-ordinate the reporting development work.

The purpose of the role is to lead and engage with customers to shape the development of new reporting, alongside our longer-term ambition of streamlining existing reporting within HMCTS.

There will be opportunities to work across AP’s multidisciplinary teams to gain wider experience, depending on the interests and skills of the post holder.

We welcome applications from candidates from the government analytical professions (GSS, GES, GSR, GORS, or GSE). Candidates who are not a member of one of those professions must be able to demonstrate substantive experience in quantitative data analysis in a data driven role.

Key Skills

  • Confidence in engaging with a range of customers, from a variety of jurisdictions across HMCTS. Being able to engage in a range of settings; from 1:1 and workshops, including those who may be geographically dispersed.
  • Ability to tease analytical requirements out through a variety of engagement styles, and being able to translate these requirements into credible Key Performance indicators, which will be included in performance reporting.
  • Experience of using performance management across all levels of an organisation to drive decision making.
  • Has working knowledge of data storage methodologies and analytical software such as Power BI, R (or other, open source software) and Excel.
  • Experience of using project management methodologies to deliver projects or services. Confidence in taking a project from start to finish, capturing and actioning changes and detail throughout.
  • Accepting the need for and keeping, accurate and timely documentation.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post.
