The Parole Board is an arms length body that assesses risk of individuals to be released from prison. This position is a new post created to support the reconsideration of decisions that are made by the Parole Board Members. These applications can be completed by prisoners, victims and members of the public. This area of work supports the strategic vision of the organisation to be more transparent. 

Job Purpose

To assist Members with reconsidering provisional decisions of the Board, upon receipt of applications from prisoners and the Secretary of State (on behalf of victims and the Public Protection Casework Section).

This is an evolving area of work and requires individuals to work effectively within the organisation, and with stakeholders, to ensure this process is workable and fully compliant with the law.

Scope of Responsibilities:

To manage the functional element of the reconsideration process, communicating effectively with team leader and stakeholders and work well within a team.

The position holder will need to identify issues and work with internal and external partners to improve the process as part of this process.

It will be imperative that the position holder is able to communicate effectively with, a diverse range of individuals, at varying grades, with competing demands for how this process functions and produces.

The post holder will need to analyse complex information and make decisions based upon this, following a clear legal framework. Escalation process will need to be followed precisely, and anomalies highlighted immediately.

Main Duties

  1. Manage all communication received for the reconsideration process
  2. To case manage Parole Board reconsideration applications
  3. Complete investigations into complaints surrounding the process, and escalate to team leader for final approval
  4. Effectively sift through reconsideration applications received from prisoners and potentially from the Secretary of State. Ensure criteria has been met;
  5. Allocate relevant applications to Members;
  6. Monitor and input the Parole Board case management system
  7. Ensure that all applications are logged, tracked and progressed effectively
  8. Effectively manage and monitor all applications submitted, allowing for a full review to take place
  9.  Ensure that all fees are paid in a timely manner to Members
  10. Advise stakeholders of reconsideration process and criteria, by responding to queries;
  11. Manage scheduling for Members;
  12. Manage and monitor caseload of applications;
  13. Send correspondence to necessary parties;
  14. Assist Team Leader and/or Deputy Team Leader;
  15. Other tasks appropriate to the role as assigned by Team Leader.
For any successful candidate, there will be a 10% pay increase on base salary for EO.

The interview will be based on success profiles and consist of behaviours and strengths. The behaviours that will be assessed in interview will be; making effective decisions, delivering at pace and communicating and influencing.

If there are a high volume of applications, the score of the lead behaviour will be taken.
