Commercial Capability Team

The breadth and depth of the work of the Ministry of Justice Commercial Function is significant. Each year we spend circa £3.2 billion on an expansive range of goods and services. In addition, we support some of the most innovative commercial work in government, and our Directorate’s work is crucial to the successful delivery of the £1.3bn prison reform and £700m court reform programmes.

The business support function sits within The Commercial Capability & Operations Team and supports the development of the commercial function to enable it to meet its strategic and operational objectives. This includes approximately 220 commercial staff and 30 support staff based in London, Leeds and Manchester. We also support a Transport and Logistics function employing around 70 staff based in the Midlands.

Contribution to a strong team ethos as well as commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration and knowledge sharing are essential.

Job Purpose

The post holder will deputise for the Business Support Manager and work collaboratively with the Finance Business Partner to ensure effective budget management on behalf of CCMD Chief Commercial Officer and Directors.

The post holder will work with Commercial and Non Commercial colleagues to ensure adherence to MoJ & CCMD policies and processes.

Responsibilities

The job holder will be responsible for ensuring the commercial function and transport unit is appropriately supported

  • Review and adapt current Business Support processes in line with the wider MoJ smarter working policy.
  • Working with managers at all levels across the function to support them in determining their resource and financial needs.
  • Maintaining an effective staff tracking process that ensures both headcount and spend are accurately monitored and can be used to inform decision making.
  • Deputise as the IT and Finance systems budget approver.
  • Lead on the CCMD Health & Safety commitments, adhering to wider MoJ policy and processes.
  • Oversee the Business Support functional mailbox ensuring requests are dealt with promptly and to the required standard.

The post holder will have line management responsibility for 4 staff.

Experience

The post holder must be able to demonstrate initiative being a proven self-starter who is hard working and shows drive and enthusiasm;

Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, organise and manage your time and that of others effectively;

Interpersonal and communication skills, evidence of talking to stakeholders and senior leaders with clarity and confidence;

Being a team player and working well with others;

Microsoft Office literacy, being especially adept at using Excel, Visio and Word.

Have some experience of working in an finance environment

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
