This is a permanent appointment in the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) People Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for working closely with the MoJ Head of Talent and senior leaders from across the department to develop and drive an innovative and inclusive new Talent Strategy. This is an exciting time to join the Talent Team and the wider MoJ People Group as we transform our services to meet the diverse needs of an evolving business.

The post is open to Band C/HEO applicants on level transfer and other eligible staff on promotion.

The base location of the successful applicants will be 102 Petty France, London. In addition, flexible working arrangements are available between 102 Petty France, MoJ Hubs and home.

We will keep a merit list for a year for those who successfully pass the interview board but who are not offered a post.

About MoJ

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual to join the MoJ Talent Team as Talent Manager. The Talent Manager will work closely with the newly appointed Head of Talent and senior leaders from across the department to devise and implement a new, more inclusive Talent Strategy which meets the diverse needs of the business. In addition to this, the Talent Manager will be responsible for working with stakeholders across the department and Civil Service to deliver a joined-up talent offering for all MoJ employees, and will be at the frontline in terms of ensuring that the team delivers a consistently excellent service to its customers. Key responsibilities will include:

1.            Supporting the Head of Talent with the development and delivery of Talent Strategy.

2.            Leading on the delivery of departmental, and the department’s participation in cross-governmental, talent schemes, including the Future and Senior Leader Schemes, Leadership Summit, Young England and Wales, Whitehall Industry Group and High Potential Development Scheme. The Talent Manager will be responsible for managing the launch, application, selection and evaluation processes for these.

3.            Working closely with Functional Leads across the department and the wider Civil Service to facilitate MoJ’s involvement in functional talent activities.

4.            Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with Talent Leads in HMCTS and HMPPS to ensure a joined-up approach to talent which works across the MoJ group.

5.            Commissioning and collation of SCS and Band A talent information, including 9 box grid markings and talent biographies, as well as ensuring that this is up-to-date and accessible for use to inform succession planning and the promotion of development opportunities across the department and wider professions.

6.            Working closely with the Head of Talent to support the department’s preparation for the annual Departmental Talent Review process.

7.            Updating and tracking the team plan to ensure all key talent activities are delivered to agreed timelines.

8.            Preparation of accurate and timely briefing to inform Executive Committee decisions on departmental talent initiatives.

9.            Representing the team at talent related events, boards and committees as well as through delivery of timely advice and guidance via the talent mailbox.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post.
