26369 - Litigation Team Caseworker
The Parole Board is an arms length body that assesses risk of individuals to be released from prison.
Job Purpose
To respond to Pre-Action Damage Claims resulting from delays in Listing Parole Hearings, submitted by Litigants in Persons (prisoners), and or external solicitors acting for prisoners.
This role requires individuals to work effectively within the established protocols and in line with the relevant law when assessing claims and negotiating settlements. The role requires the individual to be able to work within the organisation, and with external law firms, to ensure this process delivers value for money and is fully compliant with the law.
Scope of Responsibilities:
To process Private Law Claims, including the negotiation of settlements, whilst communicating effectively with line management and the rest of the team, as well as external solicitor firms, and Litigants in Person.
The post-holder will need to identify areas of challenge and respond effectively with external solicitor firms and Litigants in Person.
It is essential that the post-holder be able to:
(1) prioritise work effectively to be able to respond within the litigation and legal framework; and
(2) communicate effectively with, a diverse range of individuals, at varying grades, and manage the competing demands on their time.
The post holder will need to analyse and record complex information and make decisions based upon this, following a clear legal framework. Escalation process will need to be followed precisely, and anomalies highlighted immediately to line managers.
Main Duties
Manage communications received in relation to Private Law Claims
To negotiate on behalf of the Parole Board all private law pre-action correspondence and negotiate Article 5(4) damages settlements.
To complete investigations into claims using the established methodology and where appropriate, to escalate areas of concern to line managers.
To effectively respond to Claims received from Litigants in Person (prisoners), or external solicitors representing prisoners
To respond to further challenges from Litigants in Person and external solicitors representing prisoners.
To work with other team members to effectively manage the daily allocation of work, and to prioritise that work to best respond within the legal framework
Monitor and record the Claims on the case management system and to ensure records are kept up to date and in line with GDPR requirements
Ensure that all claims are logged, recorded and progressed effectively
Ensure that all damage claims are paid in a timely manner
To correspond to all necessary parties using the established templates
To undertake the responsibilities in line with current legislation, local and national policies.
Assist line managers in the conduct of public law pre-action correspondence
Assist line managers in preparation of cases for court (both private and public law cases).
Assist line managers in other tasks were appropriate and as assigned by them

In such cases you will need to be able to provide referee cover for the period(s) of residence overseas. The duration of overseas residence and the country of abode will also be taken into account.
