Purpose of the role

The Judicial HR Team supports the Lord Chief Justice and the Senior President of Tribunals in their responsibilities for the welfare and deployment of the judiciary and for encouraging judicial diversity.

We are looking for a pro-active individual who can work across boundaries to deliver strongly against set objectives. The post provides an ideal opportunity to develop as part of a close-knit and supportive team. You will provide advice on a range of equality and diversity issues and use influencing and negotiating skills to shape the diversity agenda. This is an exciting opportunity in a fast evolving, dynamic and high-profile area. You will be working closely with senior judiciary, others within the team and senior officials across JO, MoJ and the Judicial Appointments Commission, as well as the legal professions and charities.

The post-holder will need to be able to build and maintain strong relationships, often at a senior level, to ensure the delivery of diversity initiatives. They will use the relationships they have built with others to inform and shape delivery whilst managing planned objectives within budget.

Key responsibilities

Support the development and delivery of the Annual Diversity Plan, incorporating best practice and other innovative ideas.

Contribute to briefings on diversity for the Lord Chief Justice and senior judiciary.

Support the monitoring and evaluation of diversity initiatives.

Develop effective working relationships with the judiciary responsible for encouraging diversity and support them in their roles.

Oversee the team finance and budget management. Using the finance tools accurately forecasting the budget and reporting this to the line manager.

Provide secretariat support to the Judicial Diversity Committee of the Judges Council.

Work closely with other partners, including the Judicial Appointments Commission, the MoJ and the legal professions.

Work with the Communications Team to deliver on the diversity communications strategy, including the use of social media.

It is expected that the successful candidate will be supported by, and line manage, one band D.

The successful candidate will need strong organisational skills along with the ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and work at a strategic level in a fast-moving environment.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC)
