To support us in delivering our vision we are building a new team. The Budget Team will sit within MoJ D&T, working closely with colleagues in D&T and the central finance function, and offers a great opportunity to be part of building something new.

The Role

The Digital Budget Analyst will be responsible for …

●        Improving financial management and governance in D&T;

●        Building, putting into practice, and continually improving financial processes and reports.

More specifically this means:

Support improved financial management and governance in D&T:

●        Work with colleagues in your portfolio area and the finance function to build and inform a realistic and well-understood financial forecast;

●        Provide meaningful and accurate data analysis and insight to help colleagues make well-informed decisions;

●        Support colleagues in tracking their budgets and savings targets by monitoring savings opportunities and anticipating potential overspend;

●        Work with colleagues to resolve issues relating to budgets, purchase orders and invoices;

●        Work with colleagues to track financial benefits agreed in business cases and plans;

●        Promote the benefits of good financial management within D&T.

Creating and delivering robust financial processes and reports:

●        In line with wider D&T strategy, manage the day-to-day operation of financial processes for a specific area of D&T including:

  • Purchase-to-pay process, including:

▪          Creating, tracking, managing and closing Purchase Orders;

▪          Working with budget holders and other colleagues to deal with receipting and the release of payments to third-party suppliers;

▪          Communicating with budget holders and third-party suppliers around payment schedules, escalating where appropriate.

  • Tracking the costs of D&T work and people, both in D&T and those working for other government departments or projects;

●        Build, utilise, and continually improve financial reports, performance dashboards and scorecards.

This is a MoJ Band B role with a starting salary £36,798 plus great benefits:

Person Specification

●        You are able to draw conclusions from, and make recommendations based on, numbers and data;

●        You are comfortable presenting to, and challenging, stakeholders;

●        Experience in analysis of complex budgets or data sets, preferably IT budgets, and those that involve spend with suppliers;

●        Experience building and producing finance processes, reports and dashboards;

●        You are adaptable when faced with a variety of tasks

●        Demonstration of the following civil service behaviours at level 2:

●        Communicating and Influencing

●        Working Together

Your application will be reviewed and sifted against the Person Specification by a diverse panel.

Successful candidates who meet the required standard will then be invited to a 1-hour panel interview held via video conference.

Should we receive a high volume of applications, a pre-sift based on your experience of analysing of complex budgets or data sets, as well as your experience of presenting to, and making recommendations to, colleagues and stakeholders will be conducted prior to the sift.
