About the IMA:

The IMA protects the rights of EU and EEA EFTA citizens (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) in the UK and Gibraltar. We do this by monitoring UK public bodies to make sure they implement the rights of these citizens and by identifying any underlying issues. We are independent of government and are both professional and impartial in our work. Establishing the IMA fulfilled a central and crucial commitment that the Government has made in international agreements.

Purpose of the post:

The Intelligence and Analysis Team sits within the Operational Delivery Directorate of the IMA and supports all aspects of the IMA’s work. The team is primarily responsible for delivering the IMA’s monitoring function by:

  • Gathering timely, relevant and credible intelligence from a wide range of sources.
  • Adopting analytical techniques in order to identify potential systemic issues.
  • Using insights gained to inform key decision makers across the IMA.

The team is also responsible for wider analytical support including associated performance reporting and the ongoing development of the IMA’s case management system.

Intelligence Analysts are involved in all aspects of the team’s activity and report to a Senior Analyst (SEO grade).

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

  • Establish and interpret requirements to ensure the needs of key stakeholders are met.
  • Develop and maintain relationships internally and externally to share data, information and analysis, where appropriate.
  • Collect and evaluate data and information to support the delivery of analytical products.
  • Conduct analysis at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level, identifying and using appropriate analytical tools and techniques to interpret gaps, patterns and trends, identify systemic issues and make recommendations in support of decision making.
  • Produce written and/or verbal briefings and presentations to stakeholders to provide a clear and concise evidence-based understanding of the subject matter, including providing advice and guidance.
  • Prepare, deliver and present analytical products for use in IMA inquiries, as required.
  • Maintain awareness of innovation within intelligence to ensure implementation of latest techniques, best practice, and information relevant to the role.
  • Potential line management of Intelligence Researcher/s.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Experience of conducting analytical projects to time and quality.
  • Skilled in the use of use IT packages, systems and/or databases involved in analysing, interpreting, storing, and presenting data.
  • Demonstrable experience of using evidence to inform decision-making.
  • High quality oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders, including working with senior members of their immediate team.
  • Demonstrable ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to achieve the best result.
  • Willing to undertake intelligence analysis training.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • A relevant undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree or relevant work experience, and a demonstrable interest in analysis. This degree should be in a relevant analytical discipline. Relevant social science degrees include, but are not limited to: economics; history: geography; social policy; political science and international relations. Relevant numerate degrees include, but are not limited to: mathematics; statistics; operational research; physics; engineering; econometrics.

Or:

  • Demonstrable intelligence analysis experience from a regulatory, law enforcement, government, or other investigatory setting. Translatable experience may also include data analysis roles. The IMA may also consider experienced researchers where analytical competency can be clearly demonstrated.
