Overview

The role can be based at our Birmingham or Nottingham sites. Some occasional travel may be required.

Purpose of Role

This role is required to support delivery of OPG Health & Safety and Facilities deliverables. The role is considered permanent.

The role holder will be required to:

Health & Safety:

  • Oversee all H&S activities providing strategic steer, assessing and timing impact in line with resourcing and other key business deliverables.
  • Support the OPG H&S Lead in regard to policy planning organisation and performance with health and safety compliance consistent with HSE Managing for Health and Safety (HSG65) and MOJ policy.
  • Manage a best practice needs based approach in the procurement of H&S equipment assessing value for money procurement.
  • Support the OPG H&S Lead in providing expert policy advice on all matters relating to H&S within OPG and liaising with the H&S lead as appropriate.
  • Manage the H&S team ensuring that the team are equiped with the skills and capabilities required to support the business to deliver against its key objectives. Provide on-going coaching and development to fully support delivery of all health and safety functions.       
  • Ensure the team embed, coordinate and support the management of health and safety across OPG in line with The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work etc, Act 1974.
  • Ensure safe systems of work are in place in line with health and safety legislation and OPG health and safety procedures, monitoring compliance with health and safety requirements and taking remedial action to improve performance when necessary.
  • Work to continuously improve the health & safety risk culture within the Health and Safety Team by arranging full training, instruction, advice and guidance for all those delivering H&S functions to the wider business.

Facilities Management:

  • Support in the coaching and development of the OPG Facilities Management Team, ensuring the effective, efficient and safe delivery of all facilities management functions throughout the business.
  • Suppport in ensuring that the team are equiped with the skills and capabilities required to support the business to deliver against its key objectives by the smooth running of business operations, having effective maintenance regimes, statutory testing and compliance, planned and prevenative maintenace programmes, cleaning, security and support services in place and delivered in line with relevant legislation and to agreed standards, providing a safe environment for staff,visitors and contractors to work in.
  • Develop team understanding to ensure contractors, suppliers and visitors are dealt with in a profesional manner and are made aware of health and safety and security arrangements.
  • Manage contentious or sensitive issues in line with departmental policy and guidance. Lead in promoting within the team a culture of continuous improvement and excellent service delivery.
  • Foster the development of business awareness of the facilities mangement team ethos and positive ‘can do’ attitude.

As a member of the Governance and Facilities Branch within the Corporate Services directorate, the successful role holder must be prepared to travel between OPG’s Nottingham and Birmingham sites and occasionally to London.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • The role holder will preferably have previous experience in a Health and Safety role organising managing coordinating Health and Safety activities to ensure compliance with the HSAWA etc., Act 1974.
  • Experience of using Microsoft computer packages, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral communication.
  • The role holder will need to be able to develop themselves and identify problem solving solutions that may include training needed to further improve their own and team members skills and capabilities within their role

Highly Desirable

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and developing safe systems of work.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate

Starting Salary

The starting salary for this post is £26,347 per annum (pay award pending).
