Overview of the role: 

To manage MoJ’s nationally-acclaimed Social Mobility Programme interventions and support the MoJ Head of Social Mobility & Operational Delivery Profession Lead (HoSM/ODP Lead) to engage and build capability with the MoJ workforce and wider Civil Service.

Summary: 

The MoJ Deputy Head of Social Mobility will manage and monitor a varied portfolio of social mobility focused programmes which are directly aligned to the delivery of strategic priorities relating to social inclusion. 

Reporting to the MoJ Head of Social Mobility & Operational Delivery Profession Lead (HoSM/ODP Lead), the Deputy Head of Social Mobility will take a lead role in ensuring that all programmes are delivered to the highest quality and to set timescales, standards and within allocated budget.

MoJ’s portfolio of interventions offers a range of opportunities both externally and internally at a departmental and cross government level, including but not limited to schools events, work experience, mentoring and internships.

The MoJ Deputy Head of Social Mobility will lead, and provide direction to, a team of experts who administer the core social mobilty programmes. In addition the role will provide support and direction to a range of stakeholders across the civil service to design and develop new interventions enhancing the scope and intersectionality of our work. 

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties:

Key responsibilities will include:

·         Supporting the MoJ Head of Social Mobility & Operational Delivery Profession Lead (HoSM/ODP Lead) with the development and implementation of the MoJ Social Mobility Strategy

·         Postholder will liaise with stakeholders within MoJ and across the civil service to support the development and delivery of a cross MoJ Operational Delivery Profession strategy providing advice and guidance.

·         Managing a high performing team to deliver the MoJ Social Mobility Programme objectives

·         Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders within and outside government

·         Managing and engaging partnering organisations, including UK schools, universities, charities, social mobility ambassadors, partner government departments, mentees, mentors and work experience students.

·         Manage the Social Mobility communications strategy to engage with and support internal and external partners, including development of guidance material and supporting documentation

·         Represent the department across government specifically by leading and engaging with workforce groups including government social mobility networks, Cabinet Office Social Mobility networks as well as chairing and setting objectives for internal networks specific to outreach, increach and recruitment

·         Supoort the delivery of the Civil Service inclusion strategy and share skills and capabilty across all D&I areas to deliver challenging aims and objectives.

·         Manage delivery and continuous development of key programmes aimed at delivering organisaitonal change across the MoJ, including:

  • Schools Programme
  • Social Mobility Ambassadors
  • Curriculum development programme
  • STEP into Justice work experience programme
  • MoJ Internships
  • Catapult Mentoring/sponsorship programme

·         Engage with and promote social mobility interventons and activities across the Ministry of Justice and partner organisations

·         Support the completion and data collection of the Social Mobility Foundation Employer Index Submission, engaging across departments to gather data to demonstrate our progress within key social mobility areas

·         Engage and improve relationships across the MoJ, including working to make strong links with our People Group team to identify joint ways to further diversify our workforce

·         Consult and advise by working with departments across the Civil Service providing support and insight to help set up their own programmes and hone talent in their departments

For nationally advertised campaigns, candidates will be appointed to their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) on the completion of pre-employment checks.

The national salary range is £36,049 - £41,095, London salary range is £41,747 - £47,591. Your salary will be dependent on your base location

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.
